“I understand Alpha King,” Taylor said as he walked out the door.

Chapter 15

Pulse & Heartbeat

After they heard Taylor’s vehicle leave, Delaney turned to Chase with fear on her face and her body trembling. “Chase would you really leave us to fend for ourselves?”

Chase pulled her friend into a hug. “You know I wouldn’t. I just wanted Agent Dean to believe it so I could get the tome and my mother’s journal without them trying to cause more mayhem by holding me hostage. You know what the government does to people like us. They experiment and use us.” She shook her head as a shiver ran down her spine. “I could not do what it is I am supposed to do if they locked me up, but I do need my mother’s journal and the tome. I am hoping that the books will give me guidance or least a few answers.”

Aristione remained quiet during the entire transactions between the humans and supernaturals. He didn’t believe for a moment that the transformed to shifter FBI agent was smart enough to keep his mouth shut about Chase being queen, so he spelled him as he ran past with a memory erase about Chases’ true identity. When he saw Delaney fearful and shaking, it was all he could do not to go to her and hold her. He so wanted to comfort her, but he knew that he needed to give her time and space.

Delaney asked Chase, “What will we do if he does not keep his mouth shut and he tells them about you?”

Before Chase could answer, Aristione explained, “He will not. I spelled him to erase that part of the conversation from his memory. I also spelled him to have the urgency to get the tome and journal to you.”

“Thank you Aristione. I think we could all use some rest. We will strategize later. The rest of you can go ahead to Jax’s. I’m just going to grab some things, and I’ll meet you there.”

Aristione said, “I will wait with Chasedy and ride with her.”

Jax tensed and said, “No you will not, Travis will ride with her.”

Chase smiled, “Jax I appreciate your protective side, though it is from the Elders. Aristione and Delaney can ride with me, as well as Travis. Will that make you feel better?”

“Only if Travis rides in the front with you,” He said.

She huffed, “Alright!” She was okay with that, but she wanted to put on a good show. She was trying to think of a way to get them in the back seat together, anyway. She and Delaney went to her room, and they packed her duffle bag. Delaney hardly spoke the entire time. She knew Delaney was struggling with everything that happened today. She asked her friend in an effort to make small talk, “So Del what do you think of Aristione?”

“Honestly?” Delaney asked her.

“Yeah honestly, we have been friends since childhood, I value your opinion,” Chase replied.

“Well honestly then, I am not so sure he is right for you, but who knows what the Fates are planning.
